The facility is designed to provide beams of protons and heavy ions for nuclear and medical science.

Different types of accelerators: two proton cyclotrons, a light-ion and a heavy-ion cyclotron, will provide opportunities to run complex experimental programs, strongly integrated with European research accelerator centres, as well as projects specifically focused at one of the facilities of the NLC.
